The Golden Eye Table

This very personal piece commemorates our client’s lifelong love of sailing. An image of his sailboat, Golden Eye, is inlaid into the surface in every detail, right down to the lines and winches. The client found the name of his boat in an excerpt from Homer’s The Odyssey, which is inlaid around the circumference of the table top. Finally, the constellations Orion and Ursa Major, both referenced in the Odyssey quote, are depicted in the sky above the sailboat. The top of the table is a perfect ellipse, in a nod to the astronomical nature of the piece. The feet of the legs are also ellipses, which taper to square as they meet the graceful bentwood apron. Truly a very special piece we were grateful to be a part of.
